Abstract Exosomes are nanoscale membrane vesicles identified by electron microscopy in 1946. They are approximately 30–150 nm in size. Originally, exosomes were thought to be used to eliminate excess components from cells to maintain their normal physiology. Later, it was found that the function and targeting of specific cellular components in exosomes have important implications for the regulation of cellular communication. In the last few years, exosomes have been linked to tumors, infections, and other diseases. New advances in cancer immunotherapy have occurred as a result of the identification of exosomes of immune cell origin, expanding the existing anticancer immune response. This article details exosomes derived from dendritic cells, T lymphocytes (CD4 + T cells, CD8 + T cells, and CAR‐T cells), natural killer cells, and their promising applications in tumor therapy.

Exosomes of immune cell origin and their therapeutic potential for tumors

Abstract The efficacy and reliability of super‐resolution (SR) imaging for evaluating urethral vasculature (UV) in females remains uncertain. This study evaluates the super ultrasound for grand accuracy and resolution (SUGAR) method, an SR modality, for visualizing UV in female pigs within clinical ultrasound settings, aiming to establish its clinical feasibility and accuracy for potential human application. Female pigs (40–45 kg) were used to investigate UV blood flow dynamics, with data collected via a handheld ultrasound probe at 100 fps. The images were processed using SUGAR to achieve a resolution of &lt;30 µm and validated against computed tomography angiography (CTA) and histopathological analyses. SUGAR demonstrated superior capability in visualizing urethral blood flow compared to CTA, allowing for detailed multiparametric analysis of UV, including fractal dimension, vessel density, tortuosity, diameter, and blood flow velocity. Strong correlations between SUGAR imaging and histopathological findings underscore its potential clinical applicability for diagnosing and managing urological conditions in humans.

Super‐resolution imaging of urethral vasculature in female pigs: Validation of clinical feasibility and accuracy

Abstract Respiratory viral diseases are a leading cause of mortality in humans. They have proven to drive pandemic risk due to their complex transmission factors and viral evolution. However, the slow production of effective antiviral drugs and vaccines allows for outbreaks of these diseases, emphasizing a critical need for refined antiviral therapeutics. The delivery of exosomes, a naturally secreted extracellular vesicle, yields therapeutic effects for a variety of diseases, including viral infection. Exosomes and viruses utilize similar endosomal sorting pathways and mechanisms, providing exosomes with the potential to serve as a therapeutic that can target, bind, and suppress cellular uptake of various viruses including the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Here, we review the relationship between exosomes and respiratory viruses, describe potential exosome therapeutics for viral infections, and summarize progress toward clinical translation for lung‐derived exosome therapeutics.

Exosome therapeutics for COVID‐19 and respiratory viruses

In the early 1990s, China's in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry began to develop, propelled by rising demand for diagnostic tools and expanding healthcare infrastructure. This period saw a mix of domestic manufacturers and import agencies providing foreign diagnostic products. The industry began aligning with national standards and quality control systems, while also establishing the foundational stages of a local supply chain. In this context, the China International In Vitro Diagnostic Expo by CACLP, launched in 1991 as one of the first industry communication platforms, facilitated the initial aggregation of the IVD supply chain. At the start of the 21st century, the global IVD industry grew rapidly, with China emerging as one of the fastest-growing markets due to its large population and healthcare needs. China's accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001 marked a key milestone, allowing it to compete globally. Recognizing the potential of China's market, foreign enterprises aggressively entered to introduce integrated offerings of reagents and instruments with advanced, domestically unavailable technologies, thereby capturing significant market share. In response to foreign competition, domestic IVD companies strengthened their technological capabilities and expanded their product offerings. Backed by government initiatives and growing healthcare investments, the domestic IVD industry entered a period of rapid growth, drawing significant capital market interest. In the 2010s, China's IVD industry underwent significant structural optimization, evolving from standalone production to a fully integrated supply chain encompassing raw materials through to complete diagnostic systems. This integration boosted China's global competitiveness in diagnostics, enabling local companies to export their products internationally. A consensus emerged during this transformative period about the promising prospects for IVD industry development. Academic exchanges and industry fairs thrived, promoting collaboration and knowledge-sharing. In 2004, CACLP rebranded, and subsequent academic conferences such as the China IVD Industry Development Conference and the China Experimental Medicine Conference were introduced, highlighting the significance of research and development. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic represented a critical turning point for China's IVD industry. As global demand for diagnostics surged, Chinese companies rapidly produced and distributed test kits and diagnostic tools, positioning China as a major supplier to domestic and international markets. The pandemic further accelerated technological innovations within the industry, particularly in molecular diagnostics, rapid point-of-care testing, and digital health solutions. By 2023, with China reopening its borders and resuming international trade, the IVD industry witnessed a new wave of internationalization. Chinese companies expanded their global presence through technical partnerships, joint ventures, and broadened distribution networks. This globalization trend is evident in CACLP's strategic international partnerships with organizations such as the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM), and the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine, as well as IVD associations and national consulates in the UK, Germany, Japan, Korea, and India. By 2024, the number of international exhibitors, visitors, and participating countries is expected to reach record levels, further positioning CACLP as a prominent player in the global IVD sector. Looking forward, several key trends are anticipated to shape the future of the IVD industry. Emerging technologies such as precision medicine, next-generation sequencing, microfluidics, and digital diagnostics are set to drive innovation in domestic and global markets. Chinese companies are expected to continue investing in R&D and forming new partnerships to remain competitive in this rapidly evolving industry. Growing demand for personalized medicine and point-of-care testing presents new opportunities for both local and international players. With demonstrated resilience and adaptability, China's IVD sector is well-positioned to capitalize on these trends and expand its global influence. CACLP, now one of the world's largest IVD exhibitions, is committed to "Bringing IVD People Together" to showcase the latest innovations and promote global collaboration at its upcoming event from March 22–24, 2025, in Hangzhou, China. The development of China's IVD industry mirrors the broader narrative of China's globalization. From its beginnings in the 1990s to its role today as a global diagnostics leader, China's IVD industry has played a critical role in shaping healthcare domestically and globally. Looking forward, China's IVD sector is poised to lead diagnostic innovation, fostering collaborations that will advance global healthcare in the years to come.

The rise of China's in vitro diagnostics industry: Evolution from local innovation to global leadership

Abstract In the context of precision diagnosis for various subtypes of melanoma, identifying biomarkers with clinical translational potential from a molecular standpoint is crucial for a more comprehensive characterization of the disease. Mucin 18 (MUC18) is highly expressed in both tumor cells and tumor vasculature in major melanoma subtypes and is restricted to normal tissues. A noninvasive imaging approach for MUC18 in melanoma utilizing an immune positron emission tomography (PET) radionuclide‐conjugated drug (RDC) with an 89 Zr‐labeled humanized anti‐MUC18 monoclonal antibody (mAb) was developed. A375, Sk‐Mel‐28, HMVII, and A549 cells and tumor model mice were conducted. Immuno‐PET was employed to assess the specificity and targeting of three distinct melanoma cell line‐derived xenografts (CDXs) and patient‐derived tumor xenografts (PDXs) in immunodeficient mice. The developed RDC, named 89 Zr‐IP150, demonstrated robust in vitro stability and high binding affinity, ensuring reliable and specific PET imaging of small, medium, and large subcutaneous tumors in human melanoma mouse xenotransplantation models. Notably, for the first time, the clinical translational potential of 89 Zr‐IP150 was successfully validated using PDX models. These findings present a noninvasive, real‐time method for the early screening of MUC18 (+) melanoma patients and are important for studying the early‐stage biological distribution of MUC18‐targeted antibody‐drug conjugates.

Mucin 18‐targeted humanized monoclonal antibody immune positron emission tomography imaging and patient‐derived tumor xenograft visualization

Abstract Influenza A virus (H1N1) poses a significant threat to global human health that imperative demands the development of sensitive and accurate point‐of‐care testing (POCT) methods. Here, for the first time, Fe‐MoS 2 nanosheets were employed as a multifunctional nanotag in the development of catalytic colorimetric‐photothermal dual‐mode lateral flow immunoassay (dLFIA) strips for the sensitive detection of H1N1 inactivated virus. The Fe‐MoS 2 nanosheets featuring large size, high specific surface area, and ultrathin structure could flow smoothly on the strips and thus quickly produce an ideal colorimetric signal for qualitative analysis. Both the limit of detection (LOD) of catalytic colorimetric and photothermal signals reached 1000 copies/mL and the corresponding calculated LOD was 550 and 691 copies/mL, respectively, which were about 50–90‐fold more sensitive than traditional gold nanoparticles based‐LFIA (5 × 10 4 copies/mL). The developed assay could correctly identify eight positive clinical samples with Ct values less than 35 and 10 negative actual samples, proving significant promise for rapid, sensitive, and accurate detection of H1N1, especially in resource‐limited areas.

Abstract Cell membrane‐coated biomimetic nanosystems have been recognized as promising drug delivery vehicles in recent years for the management of diverse skin conditions. Nanoparticles (NPs) coated with biomembranes, derived from either cell membranes or subcellular structures (e.g., extracellular vesicles), offer an opportunity to combine the biological interfacial characteristics of the coating alongside with the internal core component at the nanoscale. The biomimetic coating enhances the biocompatibility of NPs and their interaction with the skin, improving skin affinity, contact, and retention. This coating also enables the controlled release of drugs and provides skin‐targeting capabilities, which collectively improve the effectiveness, safety, and stability of topical and transdermal formulations. In this context, the current review delves into the recent progress in using biomimetic NPs for skin therapeutics. Specifically, it examines the various types of coatings, including their origins, heterogeneous functions, and surface molecular repertoires, in great detail. Additionally, this review presents the methods of preparing and characterizing biomimetic‐coated NPs. Furthermore, the potential of bioinspired NPs in treating a range of skin‐related conditions has been meticulously explored. Last, the toxicological aspects of these NPs have been thoroughly examined to provide a thorough summary of the evolution of biomimetic‐coated nanosystems for skin applications.
