Economic growth and long-term output are significantly impacted by public investments. Public debt serves as a major source of funding for these investments. The purpose of this study is to assess, along with a few other macroeconomic factors, the short- and long-term effects of Albania’s external and domestic debt on public investment. The empirical research was conducted using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) estimation approach, based on annual data for the years 2000–2022. Among other things, the results demonstrated that Albania’s public investments are significantly and negatively impacted in the long-run term by external debt. However, for the period under consideration, there is no statistically significant correlation between internal debt and public investments. Furthermore, we discovered that the amount of public investments is positively and significantly correlated with both the gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign direct investments (FDI). The conclusions of the research can be helpful to the Albanian government because they shed light on the relationship between two main categories of public debt and public investments. The paper suggests that stringent project implementation guidelines be put in place by the government to guarantee profitable borrowing and closely monitor public debt.

The link between public investment strategy and public debt: An empirical assessment

Current organizational studies addressing external environmental changes predominantly adopt a human-centric perspective, focusing on the unforeseen implications and social responses to such changes. This paper argues for a shift from viewing external environmental changes purely as social phenomena to recognizing the intertwined roles of both social and material elements. The methodology involved a literature review of organizational studies, specifically focusing on studies during and after the pandemic (2020–2024), using search terms like “COVID-19”, “pandemic”, “organizations”, “implication”, and “work”. The analysis employed a thematic approach to identify patterns within the literature. This paper concludes that a sociomaterial perspective can provide a robust framework for enhancing our understanding of environmental dynamics, advocating for its broader application in organizational research. This paper contributes to organizational studies in two ways. First, it brings the material into the foreground to amend deficiencies in our understanding of the organizational external environment within which organizational practices are formed and framed. Second, the paper synthesizes the literature on sociomateriality to eliminate the ambiguity often associated with this framework, facilitating its adoption in empirical research.

This research delves into the intricate effects of mergers and acquisitions (M&amp;A) on stock prices within the Saudi Arabian banking sector, employing the event study methodology (ESM) to examine both short-term and long-term impacts on stock valuations. The study meticulously calculates expected and abnormal returns (ARs) around merger events, shedding light on the significant influence these corporate actions exert on market perceptions and investor behavior. The methodology encompasses an analysis of daily stock price data before and after merger events, providing a detailed view of market reactions. Key findings reveal an immediate positive market response to merger announcements, driven by the anticipation of synergistic benefits, alongside diverse long-term stock price effects that underscore the complex relationship between initial expectations and actual merger outcomes. The research concludes that strategic merger planning and effective communication with stakeholders are crucial for realizing the anticipated benefits of mergers. By offering new insights into the sector-specific and regional dynamics that affect M&amp;A outcomes, this study enhances understanding of the significant implications for investors, financial institutions, and policymakers engaged with the Middle Eastern financial markets.

Analyzing the impact of mergers on stock prices in the banking sector: An implication for strategic merger planning and stakeholder communication

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is recognised as one of the most significant strategic business practices and has become an indispensable element of long-term corporate strategy worldwide to gain a competitive edge (Aspal et al., 2023; Nuredini &amp; Matoshi, 2022). This research investigates the level of CSR disclosure (CSRD) practices of banking sector companies operating in India. The CSRD practices of banking companies are investigated by employing content analysis techniques for the most current financial year, 2021–2022. Company-specific and domain-specific scores have been calculated for ranking motives. According to our investigation results, India’s banking sector has limited involvement in CSRD. Our study further indicates that the banking sector primarily focuses its CSR efforts on ‘Education and training’, ‘Health and hygiene’, and ‘Rural development’. The study finds no difference in CSRD between public and private sector banks (PVSBs) in India during the reporting period. This study is the first investigation in India to evaluate the level of CSRD in the banking sector after adopting the Companies Act in 2013. The results can help regulators and policymakers make informed decisions and encourage banks to be more responsible by comprehensively disclosing their CSR spending.
