Abstract When nanoporous aerogels with excellent thermal insulation performance are processed into 1D fibers, they have great potential for application in the field of personal thermal management. However, coping with the impact of external forces, especially radial extrusion, and maintaining the macro morphology and microstructure of aerogels during use are remaining issues. To address these challenges, this study proposes a method that uses ultrafine and ultra‐highly entangled bacterial cellulose nanofibers as the basis to achieve high radial elasticity by forming an isomorphic coating of rigid silica on the soft gel skeleton of aerogel fibers. The obtained aerogel fibers can achieve an elastic recovery of 88% over 50 compression cycles under 90% strain, and they can be knotted, woven into textiles, and are washable. This strategy improves the radial compression resistance of aerogel fibers, providing rich possibilities for the development of aerogel fibers with excellent mechanical properties.

Ultra‐High Radial Elastic Aerogel Fibers for Thermal Insulation Textile

Abstract The performance of aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) at high temperatures (HT) is severely compromised by active water corrosion, parasitic reactions, and dendrite growth. Herein, zinc trifluoroacetate is introduced at a low concentration (0.2 m ), dissolved in triethyl phosphate (TEP)and H 2 O. The active water is suppressed due to the reconstructed original hydrogen bond network, which helps inhibit parasitic reactions and severe corrosion. Meanwhile, a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) formed on the zinc anode due to the decomposition of the introduced zinc salt. The high‐tolerance SEI physically separates the electrolyte and anode, reducing the corrosion caused by active water. Moreover, TEP, as a prevalent fire‐retardant cosolvent, can preferentially anchor on the zinc sheet, serving as a shielding buffer layer. TEP is not only reconstructing the structure of the electric double layer (EDL), decreasing the content of active water, but also accelerating the prompt formation of SEI further. Synergistic Effect Enables Aqueous Zinc‐Ion Batteries to Operate at High Temperatures

Abstract Supercritical CO 2 (SCCO 2 ), characterized by gas‐like diffusivity, low surface tension, and excellent mass transfer properties, is applied to create a SiO x /carbon multi‐layer coating on Si particles. Interaction of SCCO 2 with Si produces a continuous SiO x layer, which can buffer Si volume change during lithiation/delithiation. In addition, a conformal carbon film is deposited around the Si@SiO x core. Compared to the carbon film produced via a conventional wet‐chemical method, the SCCO 2 ‐deposited carbon has significantly fewer oxygen‐containing functional groups and thus higher electronic conductivity. Three types of carbon precursors, namely, glucose, sucrose, and citric acid, in the SCCO 2 syntheses are compared. An eco‐friendly, cost‐effective, and scalable SCCO 2 process is thus developed for the single‐step production of a unique Si@SiO x @C anode for Li‐ion batteries. The sample prepared using the glucose precursor shows the highest tap density, the lowest charge transfer resistance, and the best Li + transport kinetics among the electrodes, resulting in a high specific capacity of 918 mAh g −1 at 5 A g −1 . After 300 charge–discharge cycles, the electrode retains its integrity and the accumulation of the solid electrolyte interphase is low. The great potential of the proposed SCCO 2 synthesis and composite anode for Li‐ion battery applications is demonstrated.

Supercritical CO2‐Assisted SiOx/Carbon Multi‐Layer Coating on Si Anode for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

Abstract The excellent optoelectronic properties, straightforward synthesis, and robust material stability of quasi‐2D metal halide perovskites have made them a hot research topic for optoelectronic devices. In layered organic–inorganic perovskites, the optoelectronic properties are greatly influenced by morphology and quantum confinement, which are crucial for their photodetection performance and offer an excellent tunability tool. Here the optoelectronic properties and photodetection performance of quasi‐2D methylammonium lead bromide perovskites with three different morphologies nanoplatelets, nanosheets, and nanostripes produced by colloidal hot injection technique are investigated. The structural and optical characterization reveals the mixed‐n phases with varying extents of confinement. The study shows that nanostripes with the weak confinement effect exhibit superior photodetection performance. They demonstrate the highest photoresponsivity (R), external quantum efficiency (EQE), and detectivity (D) of 183 mA W −1 , 56% and 2.9 × 10 11 Jones respectively. They also show the highest on/off ratio and fastest photoresponse (rise time (τ r ) = 3.4 and fall time (τ f ) = 4.3 ms) in comparison to nanoplatelets and nanosheets. The study will aid in realizing an inexpensive high‐performance photodetector based on nanoparticles of quasi‐2D perovskites.

Toward High‐Performance Photodetectors Based on Quasi‐2D Ruddlesden‐Popper Mixed‐n Perovskite Nanomaterials

Abstract Designing mechanical metamaterials to control wave propagation often requires extensive finite element analysis and discrete Fourier transform simulations before fabricating 3D printed structures and conducting experiments. Here, an alternative approach is presented to developing a metamaterial informatics framework by integrating dataset collection with artificial intelligence (AI), which can significantly accelerate the advancement of phononic wave chip technologies based on the triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS). Visualized data analysis is performed to evaluate the sensitivity of phononic band frequency numbers (BNF). Subsequently, various machine learning algorithms are compared for the prediction of sonic BNFs to create a unique identificable encoded mechanical identification tag (EMIT) interacting with sound waves. Then, for the mechanical decoding part with the help of acoustic analogy, a novel concept technology is developed that integrates 3D‐printed EMITs with a deep‐learning audio classifier for the ownership identification of instruments. Underwater application is discussed further for civil accident investigations, such as echolocating missing aircraft, divers, sunken ships, and containers with valuable cargo. These TPMS‐based EMITs represent the first‐generation passive sonic frequency identification (SFID) transponder‐tags, marking the advent of SFID transponder systems.

Artificial Intelligence in Metamaterial Informatics for Sonic Frequency Mechanical Identification Tags

Photocatalytic conversion of benzyl alcohol (BA) is a promising means to coproduce H2with value‐added chemicals. However, there is a lack of an efficient strategy to regulate the selectivity of the BA conversion products. Here, by a simple cocatalyst engineering technique, the selective conversion of BA over Zn2In2S5nanosheets (ZIS) is maneuvered. Two types of cocatalysts, i.e., Pt and Cd, are photo‐deposited onto ZIS that can shift the selectivity to diverse products, namely, Pt to benzaldehyde (BAD) and Cd to the carbon‐carbon (C─C) coupling compounds. Mechanistic studies indicate that Cd has a high reducing capacity to convert BAD back to the ketyl radical (C𝛼radical), favoring the construction of the C─C bonds. Pt, however, facilitates the generation of C𝛼radicals but is energetically unfavorable for their coupling reactions, resulting in the generation of BAD as the main product. Theoretical calculation reveals that the distinct catalytic behaviors of Pt and Cd stem from their different electronic structures that govern the adsorption strength to the reaction intermediates and the reaction energy barriers of the C─C coupling step. This work not only addresses the challenge of selectivity regulation for BA conversion but also brings fresh mechanistic insights into the role of the cocatalysts.

Selective Photocatalysis of Benzyl Alcohol Valorization by Cocatalyst Engineering Over Zn2In2S5 Nanosheets

Abstract Accurate detection of minute external strains is crucial for the development of efficient strain‐responsive sensors. However, designing a recyclable strain‐responsive sensor that simultaneously combines high sensitivity at low strain levels, excellent mechanical properties, and cost‐effectiveness remains a significant challenge. In this study, a strain‐responsive sensor named Cu 2+ ‐crosslinked conductive acrylic resin (PAV/Cu 2+ ‐CB‐x) has been designed by integrating conductive carbon black (CB) into an acrylic resin matrix crossed by Cu 2+ to form a hierarchical dynamic network. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations reveal that this molecular structure consists of multilevel strong and weak dynamic bonds: weaker coordination bonds and hydrogen bonds endow this sensor with exceptional sensitivity to minor strains, while stronger ionic bonds ensure superior mechanical properties. This meticulous molecular design enables the PAV/Cu 2+ ‐CB‐x to exhibit a tensile strength of 7.16 MPa, an elongation at break of 355.50%, high conductivity of 0.294 S cm −1 , and excellent sensitivity under the strains below 5% (gauge factor = 8.24). Additionally, this PAV/Cu 2+ ‐CB‐x demonstrates a remarkable tensile strength recovery rate of 95.35% after multiple recycling. When applied as a strain‐responsive sensor, it can precisely capture movements of human joints and throat activity. This work provides a promising solution for future applications in motion detection and voice recognition.

Designing Highly Strain‐Responsive and Recyclable Sensors Via Multilevel Strong and Weak Dynamic Structures Under Low Strain

Abstract Electrodes with high active areas often compromise with limited ion transport kinetics in flow electrochemical devices. Herein, hierarchically porous carbon colloidal aerogels (HPCCAs) are constructed with multiscale porosities to meet the tradeoff between highly active areas and efficient mass transfer behavior. It is realized by introducing multiphase co‐separation in a sol‐gel transition process of aramid nanofibers/polyvinylpyrrolidone/carbon nanotubes followed by subsequent freeze‐drying and carbonization. The resulting HPCCA possesses a high volumetric electrochemically accessible surface area (3.27 × 10 7 m −1 ) and excellent mass transfer efficiency, 2–3 times higher permeability than commercial Toray carbon paper and 9.86 times higher than bare aerogel. An all‐vanadium single cell with HPCCAs as electrodes possesses a high energy efficiency of 83.18% under the current density of 100 mA cm −2 , which is 10–31% higher than most of the state‐of‐the‐art carbon electrode materials including commercial carbon papers. In addition, the cell with HPCCAs shows outstanding long‐term stability up to 1000 cycles. Notably, HPCCAs are applicable to more flow battery systems, such as iron/chromium (Fe/Cr), iron/vanadium (Fe/V), zinc/bromine (Zn/Br), vanadium/methylene blue (V/MB), sodium salt of flavin mononucleotide/potassium ferrocyanide (FMN‐Na/K 4 [Fe(CN) 6 ]), and methyl viologen/4‐hydroxy‐2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐piperidin‐1‐oxyl (MV/4‐HO‐TEMPO). This work offers a new chemistry paradigm for developing advanced nanoporous aerogel materials and paves the way toward highly efficient flow electrochemical devices.

Hierarchically Porous Carbon Colloidal Aerogels for Highly Efficient Flow Cells

Abstract Metal ions have regulatory activities of multi‐tissue regeneration but usually interrupt early coagulation, resulting in an abnormal hematoma structure that is not conducive to long‐term repair or regeneration. To address free metal ions immobilization during the coagulation phase and effectively promote ionic bioactivities through controlled macrophage uptake after coagulation, metal ion “adjuvants” are required. [Si─O 4 ] tetrahedron has a unique coordination tetrahedral structure to capture various metal ions and adsorb plasma proteins such as fibrinogen to facilitate macrophage uptake via receptor‐mediated endocytosis during the degradation of the fibrin network. Taking advantage of the hypoxia induction and tissue regeneration ability of copper ions, Cu[Si─O 4 ] tetrahedrons are prepared which successfully immobilized copper ions and addressed the coagulation interruption. Cu[Si─O 4 ] tetrahedrons effectively promote copper ionic uptake by macrophages via LRP1‐mediated endocytosis to create a hypoxia microenvironment and promote periodontal multi‐tissue regeneration. Therefore, [Si─O 4 ] tetrahedron is a kind of advanced multifunctional metal ion “adjuvants” that can capture metal ions and assist their transmembrane transporting to address metal ion‐induced coagulation interruption and promote multi‐tissue regeneration, providing a new strategy for metal ion‐mediated biotherapy research.

Abstract Nanoprecipitates are crucial for determining diversse properties of nanoheterogeneous materials. For instance, the tetragonal L6 0 nanoprecipitates dispersing in the body‐centered cubic A2 matrix yield the large magnetostrictive effect in Fe‐Ga alloys. Nanoprecipitates are usually coarsened under thermally activated circumstances in most of nanoheterogenous materials, which typically leads to the degeneration of the material performance. This is a bottleneck issue for the long‐time usage of nanoheterogeneous materials under thermally activated conditions. In this study, it is found that the L6 0 nanoprecipitates in large‐magnetostriction Fe 81 Ga 19 single crystals are superiorly stable under accelerating aging experiments, as evidenced by the almost unchanged phase structure, average size, volume fraction and tetragonality. Accordingly, the large magnetostrictive effect is highly stable upon long‐time thermal excitations. Systematic studies combing experimental and theoretical efforts reveal that the stronger chemical bonding between the L6 0 nanoprecipitates and the A2 matrix relative to the original chemical bonding within the A2 matrix results in a strikingly negative interfacial energy that stabilizes the nanoprecipitates. Thus, this work provides a promising strategy for stabilizing nanoprecipitates via interfacial chemical bonding strengthening induced negative interfacial energy and hence achieving highly stable performance of nanoheterogeneous materials.
